Available Roles

Virginia Wright: Mature female. Local historian. Never wrong, always “Wright”. Never married. Rumored to be the great-grandchild of the only surviving Wright family of the Marshfield Tornado in 1880. Great-Great Grandparents were crushed by a fallen tree on the square outside of the courthouse. A one-year-old child was found alive in the lap of the deceased Wrights.

Ken Kellerman “Kel”: Mysterious land developer out of California. Wants to buy farmland and build multimillion-dollar homes. Has his eye on Webster County. He will do anything to obtain land.

Zach Ziegelhofer: Young male. Farmhand. Greatest ambition in life is to own his own John Deere.

Donna Tippler: The pickle queen. She is from the Rader family, which was famous for its canned tomatoes. She likes to drink, which gives a double meaning to the pickle queen. She brings her canned and pickled goods to every event, wearing her most recent ribbons that she has won.

Gip Tippler: Husband to Donna. Gip is a not so bright politician who has seen his heyday. He’s a glad-ya man who is always shaking hands. Hightails it out when situations get sticky.

Beulah Fay Fyan: Mature female. The last Hosmer Dairy Queen and hostess of the Jubilee Festival. She wants her daughter to follow in her footsteps by becoming the new Hosmer Dairy Queen. She is related to the famed Judge Fyan who ordered the only legal hanging on Bald Hill in 1872. Charles Waller was hanged for the murder of the Newlon Family.

Guy: A tall, strong man of possible Native American descent. He has very little to say to people.

Violet “Vie” Fyan: Young, pretty lady. Daughter of Beulah Fay. One of the hopefuls to be crowned the Hosmer Dairy Queen. She wants to make a difference with her life. Proclaims herself to be “Cherokee Rose” and takes up the cause to give Walnut Springs Farm to the Cherokee people for all of their suffering along the Trail of Tears.

Gabby Robinson*: Hosmer Dairy Queen hopeful. She is not present at the event because of a terrible accident involving six campfire girls, a wagon, and a lawn chair. Her mother, Janice, was the first Fairest of the Fair at the Webster County Fair in Marshfield in 1963. A picture of Gabby in traction and a neck brace sits on an easel in the corner in hopes that people will vote for her.

*The role of Gabby may be doubled since she is not seen on stage.

About the Show

When a small-town Festival revives a long-forgotten pageant, secrets simmer, tempers flare, and celebration turns deadly. Murder at the Jubilee, an original murder mystery by local playwright Patrick Schuster, blends sharp humor, colorful characters, and hometown history into a fast-paced whodunit where everyone’s a suspect—and no one is quite who they seem.
