About the Show

Murder at the Jubilee centers on the fictional Hosmer Dairy Queen Pageant — a beloved small-town tradition that takes a deadly turn when people start turning up dead. The show is a reimagining of MCT’s earlier production Murder at Walnut Springs, one of the company’s first forays into the murder mystery genre, rooted in the real history and geography of Marshfield and Webster County.

The show weaves real local landmarks and stories into the script, including references to the Hubble Telescope replica on the Marshfield town square, the Hornet Spooklight near the Missouri-Oklahoma border, the Trail of Tears’ passage through what is now Hidden Waters Park, Elephant Rocks State Park, and the legacy of the historic Hosmer Dairy Farm (now Walnut Springs Farm).

“This show is a love letter to Marshfield,” said Toni Lorenz, the show’s director. “Every detail, every laugh, every twist comes from this community and its stories. We want audiences to recognize their home on that stage.”

Celebrity Book Signing — Thursday, April 23

Thursday evening’s performance will be followed by a special celebrity book signing featuring author Doug Hartline, who will be signing copies of his book Romancing with the Stars, which chronicles the love stories of famous personalities.

Joining Hartline will be three special celebrity guests:

•       Pamela Baird, known for her role as Mary Ellen Rogers in the iconic television series Leave It to Beaver

•       Jerry Mathers, beloved star of Leave It to Beaver

•       Alison Arngrim, best known for her unforgettable portrayal of Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie

This rare opportunity to meet television legends from two of America’s most cherished classic series is included as part of the Thursday evening experience.

Original Music by Dennis Beck

The production will feature original music and music videos by Dennis Beck, a formerly local singer-songwriter with deep ties to the Marshfield community. Among the featured tracks is his song “You Might Be From Marshfield” — a crowd-pleasing ode to small-town Missouri life that is sure to resonate with audiences.

Beck’s music adds yet another layer to what MCT is building with this production: not just a theatrical performance, but a genuine community event that honors where Marshfield has been and celebrates where it is going.

A New Home for Marshfield Community Theatre

Murder at the Jubilee also marks a milestone for MCT as the part of the second Main Stage production in their second year at the Jubilee Theater Center, the organization’s performance venue in downtown Marshfield.
